The strength of the film lies in its simplicity. Ryan pairs beautifully lit shots with grounded performances to deliver a sentimental yet optimistic tone. We’re left with the message that ageing is not something to fear but a privilege to be shared. It can and should be handled with grace, dignity and love.
“We shot the commercial over three days around Auckland, New Zealand. It was one of the most enjoyable commercials I've ever made as diving into each distinct era allowed the team and myself to really geek out on the aesthetic. While of course the grade helped establish the time periods we also shot on different flavours of vintage lenses, to help establish each era. Aged care is a delicate subject, both for the individuals entering that stage of their life and their caregivers. When I saw the original script, from the team at Pitchblack, I was blown away by how beautifully they'd presented this tricky subject.”
